The first year of the Mariani Open pitted the Blue Team against the Red Team.  The first day of the event was played at Ingleside Golf Club where Blue took a 2-1 lead on the first day of play. The second day came down to the final match and the final hole as red needed only to halve the final hole to win the match and the cup. But Mike Bertha, with nerves of steel, sunk a 10-foot putt to win the hole, square the match and win the title for Team Blue.
